Boston’s debauched elite is going up in flames, and it’s the Fitzpatrick family that set it on fire.

Hunter
I didn’t mean to star in a sex tape, okay?
It was just one of those unexplainable things.
Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds.
It just happened.
Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston’s nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan.
The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family’s oil company.
Little does she know, that’s not the only pipe I’ll be laying…

Sailor
I didn’t want this gig, okay?
But the deal was too sweet to walk away from.
I needed the public endorsement; Hunter needed a nanny.
Besides, what’s six months in the grand scheme of things?
It’s not like I’m in danger of falling in love with the appallingly gorgeous, charismatic gazillionaire who happens to be one of Boston’s most eligible bachelors.
No. I will remain immune to Hunter Fitzpatrick’s charm.
Even at the cost of losing everything I have.
Even at the cost of burning down his kingdom.

Rating:

A pampered polo prince living a hedonistic lifestyle.

I didn’t care too much for Hunter Fitzpatrick from his introduction in the All Saints High series.  This book gave me a whole new understanding and appreciation for his character.  Pretty much discarded by his family, Hunter copes the only way he knows how.  With his supermodel good looks and huge bank account, he has no shortage of women throwing themselves at him.  His life of excess comes to a head after a sex tape of him is loaded to the internet.  His family is now forced to deal with him and mitigate the damage.

In comes Sailor Brennan.  She’s a very fierce, determined, sharp-tongued, red-headed archer.  She’s more interested in chasing her dreams than chasing after a man.  After she’s hired to be Hunter’s nanny solely to keep him celibate, all bets are off whether or not she succumbs to his playboy charms.

What I liked about this story:  I liked the interactions with the Brennan family.  If you’ve read LJ Shen’s book Sparrow, you’re already intimately acquainted with Troy and Sparrow Brennan. (If you haven’t read Sparrow yet, I highly recommend it!)  I liked that Sparrow is such a strong heroine and not easily swayed by this pretty boy.

I also liked seeing Hunter’s vulnerable side. This gave more insight to his character and why he is the way he his.  Sailor and Hunter are a perfect match for each other.   It took an archer to pierce this playboy’s heart.

I also appreciated a break from all of the angst from some of the previous LJ Shen books.  This was an easy read and one I’ll be sure to devour again.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming books in this Boston Belle’s series.

Check out The Hunter today.

Book Review: In The Unlikely Event https://nextromanceread.com/book-review-in-the-unlikely-event/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=book-review-in-the-unlikely-event Wed, 08 Apr 2020 05:09:51 +0000 https://nextromanceread.com/?p=55 LJ Shen

From #1 Amazon Bestseller L.J. Shen comes a new, star-crossed lovers romance about loss, love, and meeting The One when you are too young to know how to keep them.

Sometimes you meet people who are out of this world, so you make them a part of yours.

A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land.
An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny.
We signed a contract on the back of a Boar’s Head Pub napkin that said if we ever met again, we would drop everything and be together.
Eight years and thousands of miles later, he’s here.
In New York.
And he’s America’s music obsession.
The intangible Irish poet who brings record executives to their knees.
The blizzard in my perfect, unshaken snow globe.
Last time we spoke, he was a beggar with no intention of becoming a king.
But a king he became, and now I’m his servant.
I’m not the same broken princess Malachy Doherty put back together with his callused hands.
I have a career I love.
A boyfriend I adore.
An apartment, a roommate, a life.
I changed. He changed, too.
But Mal kept the napkin.
Question is, will I keep my word?

Rating:

A chance encounter, a contract written on a napkin, more than an ocean between them.

Love at first sight?

For Rory and Mal?

For me and this book?

I’ve read and loved all of LJ Shen’s books and I have to say that this one is definitely a favorite.  This book is a change from her usual writing style and I love it!  It’s quirky, and funny, and angsty.

Rory and Mal are two star crossed lovers that you can’t help but root for to be together.

Their passion for each other is undeniable.

Mal is a gorgeous, Irish poet with violet colored eyes and a beautiful soul.  He loves deeply and fiercely.

Rory is a beautiful, determined, silver-haired Jersey girl with a heart of gold.

Secrets and a series of mistakes and misunderstandings threaten to keep them apart forever.

Kismet?

This book is a wild ride of feelings and emotions.  I want a hundred more books like this.

The extra point of views in the story bring are surprising and fun.

Check this book out today. I promise you won’t regret it.
